Synopsis:
This story happened in a village in China at the end of the 1980s. A capable
rural woman, called Xiang, became rich because she ran a Porcelain kiln.
But Xiang, even though traditional in her thinking suffers an abusive marriage
and gambling husband. Eventually she finds comfort in the arms of
her kiln factory manager, Shi Zhong. Then Xiang pays money to a destitute
family to have their daughter, Huan Huan, marry Xiang’s mentally disabled
son. One day, as Xiang had a date with her lover, Shi Zhong, they are
almost discovered by the husband, however Huan Huan helps them avoid
trouble. After this, Shi Zhong decides to leave and soon thereafter, the kiln
is lost due to gambling debts. After all this, Xiang is a broken woman and
reflects on all her tragedies some self-inflicted and decides to begin anew
and restore herself.
